The American Magical School

 Salem Witches Institute


Salem Witches Institute is a wizarding school located just outside of Salem, Massachusetts. The school resides in a forested area, hidden from muggles. It is a co-ed institution for young witches and wizards aged 12-18. It is the most prestigous magical school in America, so it is considered a great honor for students to attend. Started as a finishing school for young ladies studying magic, the school now houses both genders and has a strong focus on culture and arts.

There are 5 surrounding buildings, each two floors and assigned a name relavant to it's location on the campus or it's purpose for the institute.


    The North Building: History of Magic, Defense Against the Dark Arts, Ancient Runes.
    The South Building: Transfiguration, Charms, Muggle Studies.
    The East Building: Potions, Astronomy, Arithmancy.
    The South Building: Herbology, Care of Magical Creatures.
    Assembly and Arts Building: Theatre, Painting, Dance, and Music. This building features an attached auditorium, ballroom, and gallery for exhibitions and performances.

Students reside in three dormitory buildings according to their Fellowship. These dormitories are located to the right of the main building. Each is two stories with the bottom floor serving as a common lounge and the top floor containing bedrooms. Each student shares a room with one other student.

The academy has most of the core subjects of other magical institutes, with the addition of four artistic courses. Students must choose one of these courses to study throughout their time at school. The Japanese Magical School

Mahoutokoro University of Witchcraft & Wizardry


Mahoutokoro University of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the main Japanese school of magic. It is located on the small island of Nakano-shima in the Sea of Japan, which is also home to one of the few wizarding communities in the country. Mahoutokoro University’s houses are divided in to colors: The Red Dragon, the Yellow Kitsune, and the Blue Kappas. The Dragons celebrate Honor and Courage, the Kitsune celebrate Cunning and Wit, and the Kappas celebrate Wisdom and Patience. Students are instructed in very rigid fashion with high pressure due to inter house and peer competition.

Mahoutokoro faculty and students uphold a level of honor and dignity in their uniforms. All students are required to have both common school robes and dress robes.

The Scottish Magical School

 Hogwarts School of Witchcraft & Wizardry


Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry is the main magical institute of United Kingdom. It is located in a forested area in the highlands of Scotland next to a large lake. If muggles approach the school, it will appear only as a run-down and abandoned building with a sign reading 'Do Not Enter'. It is also unplottable on a map. On the Hogwarts crest is their motto, "Draco dormiens nunquam titillandus," which means "Never tickle a sleeping dragon." The current headmaster is Professor Albus Dumbledore.

Curriculum

In their first and second years, students are required to take a set course list including:

After their seventh year, students take Nastily Exhausting Wizarding Tests (N.E.W.T.s).

During the school year students can gain or lose points for their house. At the end-of-term feast, the house with the most points is awarded the House Cup for the following year. Only professors and prefects are allowed to award and dock points. If merely taking away house points is not sufficient, professors can give students a detention of their choosing.

Extracurriculars

  • Quidditch Club - Each house has it's own team, allowing for matches between the houses. Matches are held once a month or so, except during busy times, and resulting in a final House Cup tournament at the end of the year.

  • Gobstones Club - Meeting regularly after lunch, come hang out in the great hall and play this fun magical board game! A great way to get to know your fellow students.

  • Prefect Club - Top achievers in years five through seven are selected to serve in the Prefect Club, helping to maintain order in the school and patrol the halls.

The Norwegian Magical School

Durmstrang Institute for Magical Learning


Durmstrang Institute is the primary magical education facility in Norway, as well as the most prominent in the Scandinavian region. Much like Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry and Beauxbatons Academy of Magic, it is unplottable and disguised so that muggles and those wizards who do not know its location will be unable to locate it. Durmstrang offers schooling over the course of seven years, the first year being for those students who are eleven years of age. Durmstrang is a co-educational school that accommodates both male and female students. The students are separated into years instead of houses (i.e. First year students have their own dorm, second years have their own, etc.). However, the institute does not accept Muggle-born students and halfbloods are accepted by the skin of their teeth. The school is known for its emphasis on the instruction of Dark Arts rather than defense against them.

Once considered, they must submit to an interview with the headmaster and perform a simple spell that helps prove their magical ability. Students are informed of the spell well in advance so that they can practice, and parents are expected to give their children as full of a magical education at home as possible, with minimal participation in muggle institutions.

Students may enroll from any country, but priority is given to students in Germany, Poland, Romania, Russia, Bulgaria and of course the Scandinavian countries of Norway, Sweden, Iceland, and so on. The validity of these statements has been questioned over time, but Durmstrang Officials uphold the national favoritism in honor of tradition. All students are required to learn conversational English before attending, and though all lessons are taught in English, students have the option of bringing textbooks of their own native language.

The Egyptian Magical School


Blessed Isis Temple of Spells

Blessed Isis Temple of Spells has been a place for folks to learn magic since the early days of the Egyptian Gods, but was only made an official school of magic in the past 900 years or so. Isis was the ancient goddess of magic; and though she is not revered as so important in modern times, she is the reason the school was developed, so that students may practice their talents in testament to the goddess herself.

Like most schools, students at Blessed Isis begin schooling at age 11, however the term does not start until September 11, the first day of the month of Thout, which coincides with the season of Akhet. Students spend the fourth month of Akhet (Koaik) on break, from December 10 to January 8, and resume lessons on the first day of the month of Tobi, which is the first month of the season Peret. School lets out for a summer break over the season of Shemu, beginning on June 9, which is the season of the harvest.


Curriculum

The lessons taught in the temple focus on more ancient magic, although some traditional courses are also offered. Students are allowed to study any combination of eight classes through fifth year, and may choose to focus on only four more intensive courses in their sixth and seventh year. Students who are accepted into the House of the Sun in their final years may instead pick a single course of study to focus on, attending lessons, an apprenticeship, and up to two optional elective courses.

These students are prospective members of House of the Sun, and in exchange for helping to keep the oasis area clean and patrolling the area at night (similar to prefect patrols at Hogwarts,) they are permitted to have an extra study session each day instead of taking a full roster of classes, in order to focus more on their studies and not be overloaded with coursework.


Enrollment

Many of the students attending Blessed Isis come from a long line of magical relatives who also attended the school. Students enroll at age 11 and may attend only if a member of their family tree had been enrolled in the past. Each year, a limited number of students from outside the usual family lines are accepted on application only if they can exhibit sufficient magical prowess. A select number of sixth and seventh year students are also accepted on transfer each year if they wish to pursue an apprenticeship or focus studies in crafting or rune/glyph work.

Arrival at the school happens by way of caravan from the nearby city of Cairo - boarding into carriages and on camelback where they will ride out to the temple in the cover of night. This trip is referred to as the Journey of a Thousand Stars, and while upper-grade students are given the option of arriving by broom or apparation to the front gate, many choose to take the Journey due to the excitement of it all.

Students are placed in one of two houses upon their arrival at the school, the House of the Sea or the House of the Desert. While no one is entirely positive what the values are for each house, due to the ancient nature of their founding, they are selected at midnight following the Journey of a Thousand Stars, as new students are led to the grand staircase before their peers - at least, those who choose to watch a ritual held so late at night. Students are requested to put their hands on either side of a sun dial engraved with runes, that in the dark of night will illuminate in either a shade of blue with the shadow pointing towards the east, or a shade of green with the shadow pointing towards the west.

After achieving an exemplary score on their exams in the fifth year, students are invited to the sun dial once more. As the exam results arrive during harvest season, those students who scored high enough may be invited back to the school in mid-July for the Sun Ceremony, at which point they place their hands on the dial once more at the height of the sun's movement for the day. If the runes on the dial begin to glow, the student has been accepted by the gods and may continue their studies into more advanced magic in the House of the Sun. If not, they must continue at intermediate level in their original houses. Students who do not make it prior to their sixth year may try again at the Sun Ceremony preceding their seventh year.

Uniform

Students uniforms consist of loose white or ivory robes, wrapped similar to togas, secured by a navy colored silk cord at the waist. Houses are denoted by a pure silver cartouche pin above the left breast, and are tinted an earthy green for Desert students, wtih a sky blue for those of the house of the Sea. Each cartouche pin also has the name of the house engraved in heiroglyphics. Hats are not permitted during lessons, but students are welcome to wear jewelry and other adornments if they so choose.

Those who are accepted into the House of the Sun are given a cartouche pin that is golden instead of the silvery-green or silvery-blue of the other houses. Seventh year students, who have senority over the rest, are given a golden cord in their final year at the school to denote their status.

Sandals are required only in the dining area, greenhouses, and while playing Quidditch, with bare feet being acceptable elsewhere. Professors may choose to require footwear in their classrooms if they so desire.

Professors uniforms are identical to students, except that they are required to wear wine colored robes instead of white or ivory. Professors are traditionally given a silver cord, however those that are alumni of Blessed Isis are permitted to wear their golden cord given to them in their seventh year. Professors who were previously in the House of the Sun are also permitted to wear their golden cartouche pin, as it is considered a great honor to have studied in that house.

It is unplottable and disguised so that muggles and those wizards who do not know its location will be unable to locate it. Wizarding robes were dropped as part of the standard uniform in the 1950s. Since then, the uniform has consisted of slacks, skirts, shirts/blouses, tie, and blazer. Special Holiday: Leisure Day



Typically, in The Sims, every day is a sunny day. You and your Sims are probably used to clear weather and lots of sunshine. With the introduction of transformative weather effects in The Sims 3 Seasons, now you can play with summer as you never have before – with blisteringly high temperatures and heat waves!
  In The Sims 3 Seasons, the temperature of the world can change over the course of the day, transitioning from a cool, brisk morning to a scorcher by noontime. If your Sim is out in the heat for too long, they’ll start to sweat and may even spontaneously combust! But don’t worry, there are plenty of ways to keep cool. Wearing swimwear, holding a parasol, eating an ice cream or just heading indoors are some of the ways you can keep your Sim from overheating. And if you have the new “Immune to Heat” lifetime reward, your Sim can enjoy all the benefits of spending time in the heat without any of the negative side effects!

Speaking of the benefits of being out in the sun, summer is the perfect time to put on some swimwear and get a nice tan. Just be careful, lying under the hot sun for too long will result in a nasty sunburn instead of a bronze glow.

Other option is to spend a few Simoleons on a tan from the spray tan booth. But even the tanning booth isn’t a foolproof way to get an even tan. Results will vary from the successful to the downright hilarious, depending on whether malfunctions or pranking kids are involved.

Your Sims can also cool off by taking a dip in the pool, or better yet, leaping into it off of the brand new diving board! Once in the pool, your Sims can take a leisurely rest on the pool lounger. This floatable cushion of air is not only useful in the pool, but provides a nice way to relax when floating on the waves in the middle of the ocean.

For the first time in The Sims PC/Mac franchise, your Sims can swim in ANY ocean, river or lake that is in the world! For all of you world builders out there, your Sims can swim in the bodies of water you’ve created as well! As long as the ocean, river or lake is not on a residential or community lot, has a gradual slope into the water, and your Sims can walk to the coast, then they can dive right in!

After spending a day at the beach, head over to the summer festival. Each season has unique activities for your Sim to enjoy. During the summer, your Sims can get their faces painted, practice shooting soccer goals or even participate in a hot dog eating contest!

Your Sims can also make snow cones at the festival and purchase a machine for the home. The standard snow cone stand is great for outdoor parties, and the smaller one can be placed on kitchen counters for a refreshing mid-day treat.

Once the sun goes down, there’s still plenty to do! In addition to new fireworks, we now have firecrackers, including spinners, rockets, smoke bombs and more! Like swimming in the ocean, the firecrackers are also a year-round activity. During the summer, the grocery store will be holding a firecracker sale, so be sure to stock up for the rest of the year.

Since most of the firecrackers are too dangerous for kids to handle, we’ve added another firecracker option that’s safe for nearly all ages: sparklers! They come in two types, white and rainbow.

Special Holiday: Love Day


Spring time not only brings blue skies, but, occasional drizzle, fog, heavy showers and even lighting. Although rain can soak your Sims, there are quite a few benefits to having a few wet days. Sims can splash in puddles for a little fun, it can help put out fires in your town or it can water your plants.

Also, no longer will inclement weather prevent your Sims from enjoying the outdoors. For the first time in The Sims franchise, we have umbrellas! With water-proof umbrellas in hand, Sims can walk, chat and even run outside without getting wet. Not only can you change the color and patterns on the umbrella, you can even upgrade them to glow!

In additional to weather, colors also play a large part in seeing the changing seasons. Through the thick of winter snowstorms, spring is welcomed with a fresh burst of color. The trees will start to re-grow their leaves, and you’ll see our new collectable wild flowers sprouting throughout the town. Sims can pick and gather these wildflowers to add an extra pop of color to their homes. Although be warned, they may be susceptible to seasonal allergies. Don’t worry though, a quick trip to the hospital to get an allergy shot will clear your Sims’ symptoms quickly.

To celebrate each season, a festival will arrive to your town! Each festival is unique to the season will transform completely with new objects and decorations throughout the year. Not only will festivals appear in Sunset Valley, but they’ll appear in other worlds too. You can be living it up in The Sims 3 Late Night ’s Bridgeport, or be enjoying the dry heat of The Sims 3 Store’s Lucky Palms while participating in seasonal festivities.

But back to spring. With spring being the season of color, it was fitting to have an egg hunt held at the spring festival. Every day, new eggs are scattered throughout the grounds. Finding these colorful eggs can net your Sims some valuable festival tickets that can then be redeemed for prizes. You might even find some other surprises during your hunt as well!

In The Sims 3 Seasons we created a lot of new ways to meet other Sims. Sims can hold parties, send love letters by mail or even find a date online. Once you’ve found a potential match, the spring festival has plenty of activities for new lovebirds to enjoy. They can skate on the roller rink, test their knowledge of one another on the lover tester machine, dance and compete for the title of Spring King and Queen or challenge each other to a round of horseshoes.

Or if your Sim is alone (or willing to sneak a peck), they can ask for a kiss at the kissing booth. Your Sim can also work a kissing booth too! If you see an open, unmanned booth, you can send your Sims to offer kisses of their own. With a little charm and appeal, your Sims may make a few Simoleons stealing a few smooches.
