Reliving my Childhood in Fast Forward

Ow, and the list of the animations I've watched today keeps increasing! That's how you know this time of year has come once again... Or, rather, this time of the semester... Exams! Doing anything to avoid them! Reliving your childhood! The age you wished so hard to get away from once, but now are anxious to get back to. Well, even if to take small tastes, that's fine with me!

Of course, in my Childhood I used to watch them in VHS... DVDs did not exist then, yes I'm old. But, not THAT old!

Childhood Nostalgia

Lately I've been missing my childhood years. And, today I relived them, even if just for a while. I watched Lion King 1 1/2, featuring Timon & Pumba, Hercules, Little Mermaid: The Beginning and finished with Lion King II. I liked very much the opening of that last movie, so here it is. Πατρίδα (Omega Vibes)

Ψάχνοντας κομμάτια των Omega Vibes σήμερα το πρωί, ανακάλυψα πολύ ωραία τραγούδια. Και συνειδητοποίησα ότι πολλά από αυτά αναφέρονται στην Πατρίδα. Γενικότερα πολλοί καλλιτέχνες έχουν γράψει και εκτελέσει τραγούδια που αναφέρονται σ'αυτό το θέμα. Ιδιαίτερα πατριώτισσα δεν είμαι, υπό την άποψη ότι αγαπώ και τιμώ τη χώρα μου απεριόριστα, αλλα δε θεωρώ οποιοδήποτε άλλο λαό κατώτερο ή οποιοδήποτε άλλο τόπο λιγότερο όμορφο.

Θα παραθέσω όμως μερικά από τα τραγούδια που μιλούν για την πατρίδα γενικότερα και ειδικότερα, τα οποία βρήκα μέσω του D.N.A., των Omega Vibes.

So, I found an app that can supposedlyinfluence dreams.
I think it could be possible, although I haven't had the chance to try it yet.

Προειδοποίηση για μεγάλο σεισμό

Ο εντεταλμένος ερευνητής του Αστεροσκοπείου Αθηνών, Γεράσιμος Χουλιάρας επιβεβαιώνει τις προβλέψεις του καθηγητή, Άκη Τσελέντη περί ισχυρού σεισμού.


Μάλιστα ο κ. Χουλιάρας δηλώνει πως είναι σχεδόν σίγουρος ότι οι φόβοι του για έναν επικείμενο ισχυρό σεισμό στην Ελλάδα θα επαληθευτούν.



Έντονη ανησυχία εκφράζει για κάποια ιστορικά κτίρια στο κέντρο της Αθήνας, τα οποία είχαν χαρακτηριστεί ως «κόκκινα» και «κίτρινα» στο σεισμό της Πάρνηθας το 1999.



Αναλυτικότερα ο κ. Χουλιάρας επισημαίνει πως «Πρέπει όλοι να δούμε με προσοχή τη σεισμική θωράκιση των κτιρίων μας. Αν γίνει ένας σεισμός μεγέθους 5,5 Ρίχτερ κάποια κτίρια ακόμη και στο κέντρο της Αθήνας θα πέσουν. Κτίρια όπως το παλιό Εφετείο, το κτίριο του ΙΚΑ στην Πειραιώς, αλλά και άλλα πολλά δημόσια κτίρια πρέπει να ελεγχθούν από τους ειδικούς. Γιατί όταν γίνει ο σεισμός μετά θα τρέχουμε όλοι μας να σώσουμε ότι μπορούμε. Και όλοι ευχόμαστε αν γίνει κάποιος σεισμός να γίνει στη θάλασσα για να μην έχουμε εικόνες όπως στην Ιταλία.



Ζούμε σε μια σεισμική χώρα. Αν κρίνουμε από τη στατιστική των σεισμών έχουμε κάθε μήνα έναν σεισμό μεγέθους 5 Ρίχτερ και κάθε χρόνο έναν σεισμό μεγέθους 6 Ρίχτερ. Ισχυρό σεισμό έχει να κάνει πάρα πολύ καιρό οπότε αν κρίνουμε από τη στατιστική περιμένουμε έναν τέτοιο σεισμό. Αλλά κανείς δεν μπορεί να πει το πότε και το πού».

Tango remade songs

 So, I've already happened to mention that this semester I attended some lessons of tango that were given to my Uni.

So, we were listening to and dancing many awesome songs.

Some of them happened to be remakes of a variety of songs I've loved.

Take as an example this amazing remake of Roxanne first heard in the movie Moulin Rouge.
I'm totally planning on watching it. It will be definitely worth it.



And, then of course it's this sweet sweet remake of Enjoy the Silence that I just seem to not be able to stop listening to. Wow. Tanghetto has done some great work there. And, this classic Depeche Mode song isn't the only one that has been remade. Tanghetto has also made a tango version of Sweet Dreams . How awesome is that?




I didn't want to make the post too crowded with videos, but you should totally check out more of tango remakes.

The Soundtrack of Cold Case

So, for quite some time I've wanted to find the awesome opening soundtrack of the series Cold Case.
And, well, today I did it by mistake. I found the music group that composed the awesome song, and then I happened to check their YT profile. And, TA DAH! :3

E.S. Posthumus

Today I found accidentally (I don't even remember how) this awesome song.
This awesome music group actually... Wow.




E.S. Posthumus was an independent music group that produced cinematic style music. Their style is a form of classical that intertwines popular style drum rhythms with orchestral and electronic sounds. Their music is inspired by the Pythagorean philosophy which states that "music is the harmonization of opposites; the conciliation of warring elements". The E.S. is an acronym for "Experimental Sounds" while Posthumus is a Dog Latin word that is meant to represent "all things past".
The group was formed in 2000 by brothers Helmut and Franz Vonlichten. Helmut and Franz studied piano with their mother. After graduating from high school, Franz worked in recording studios while Helmut attended and graduated from UCLA, with a degree in archaeology. Their music has been licensed by many movie and television production studios, being included in numerous movie trailers and television shows. E.S. Posthumus released three albums overall in their career.
On July 22, 2010, it was officially announced that Franz died about two months before. After giving notice of his brother's death, Helmut stated that while there still may be one or two unreleased songs (One of them being their single "Christmas Eve" released in November 2010), the group would no longer be active. In November 2011, it was officially announced that Helmut Vonlichten has formed a new band called Les Friction, and released a preview at his new work with a track called "Torture".

Eurovision 2012 public's votes.

Could this be a kind of prediction? I guess.
We'll see.



 What amazed me about this video?
That Cyprus was voted up to the fourth place, and Greece to the third. Wow, I'd really like a version like this.

And, my opinion of this year's participations?

Well, I totally like Latvia, Hungary, Germany, Norway and Italy's songs!
Not specifically in that order, but yeah!

Oh, and Bulgaria's song makes multiple references to other languages.
I specifically heard "S'agapao poli" which means "I love you very much" in Greek, and something about amour in French, too.
Ehehee!

Well, for the rest of the songs? I have to listen to them all through first. ^^

OH! And Jedward participate this year, too! :O Haha, my cousin will go crazy!

It's actually pretty awesome to listen to all of these songs.
You realize how much the style of music that is popular has changed over the years.
I think people of different decades like and have voted for totally different sounds.

But, why does that happen? What do you think?

Eurovision winners 2000-2010

The Eurovision winners of the last decade...

Denmark -Estonia -Latvia -Turkey -Ukraine -Greece -Finland -Serbia -Russia -Norway -Germany



Well, in 2000 I was only 7 years old, so I don't think I really watched Eurovision.
That means I don't remember know any of the songs that won from 2000 to 2003.
I'm sorry Denmark, Estonia and Latvia...

And, Turkey's song I'm not quite sure that I remember the performance on the Eurovision final, or the next year's in Turkey.

But, I am definitely able to recall Ruslana from Ukraine and the impression she had made to me.

Of course, I don't think any Greek person will ever forget Helena Paparizou with her "Number One", which also ensured our victory in 2005.
Ow, so touching. So many memories.

Anyway, in 2006, the contest was held in Greece, and I remember how much my father like Lordi. And they won. Ow.

Well, the next years are important for their own reasons.
And, each participation has left a different mark to me.

Norway's was the most moving moment in this video, in my opinion.
I don't really know why.
Maybe because the song took so many votes. The most in the history of Eurovision.
Maybe because I have linked it to so many nice memories.
Maybe because it was just an awesome song.
But, it definitely will stay with all of us!

Eurovision 2010: Greece

Hahaha, I found some interesting information I had absolutely no idea about.

Giorgos Alkaios (the singer of the track) is one of the few Greek artists who holds the record for consecutive concerts during the last decade in Cyprus, Germany, England, Canada, Australia and in the USA. Over the years more than 300,000 people have watched Giorgos performing live.
Giorgos Alkaios is known to non-Greeks as well, due to his appearance in charts around the world. Outside Greece he is considered as an ethnic artist, and for that he has been invited to perform in prestigious venues.
His song Syrmatoplegma became the anthem of the famous football team Galatasaray, when the team won the transcontinental Cup and the UEFA cup.
His first platinum record abroad came from Sweden, when Antique performed his song Opa-Opa a top hit in charts around Europe.

Eurovision is a Song Contest

Well, as I was roaming through the Eurovision participants of this year, I noticed how many people were fighting about political issues below the videos. Especially below Greece and Cyprus' songs.
So, I made some comments about it. It goes and applies for all the countries, the same.



Gee, people, first here, then below Cyprus' representation's video.
Firstly, it's purely rude to start insulting people out of the blue, writing bad things about them and their country under THEIR representation's video. Imagine how would you feel to see so many arguments. Yes, we have a bad system, and yes we do boast about our ancient roots too much sometimes.
BUT you can't blame ALL the people of a country without even knowing them. Without even having visited their country.

We're not fascists. At least, not all of us.
I know many Greek people, of course, and I know, I have the courage to admit, that there are many people I wouldn't want to know. But, there are also people that are so good, kind-hearted, warm. Also, fighters, people that believe to a better tomorrow, and won't let things to chance. Because, we ARE fighting for our future. You can't just listen to what the media say about a country and start blaming everyone. That's just plainly silly. And racistic!

Oh, and something else, Eurovision is a SONG CONTEST.
Stop bringing political issues here, and just ENJOY THE MUSIC.
And, if you don't like it, just leave it be.
It is wiser that getting involved in meaningless arguments that will take you nowhere.
Because, like it or not, your racistic, totally generalized, unbased and unresearched opinion of our country just makes us angry. But, it will change nothing.
